3× National Champion Head Men's Basketball Coach | Author
LeShawn R. Hammett is a 3× National Champion Head Men's Basketball Coach, author, and program builder — with 14 seasons of head coaching experience across three programs: Cecil College, Penn State Wilkes-Barre, and Paul Quinn College.
Before he ever drew up a practice plan, he lived the game — climbing from junior college to Division I, then competing professionally for several seasons overseas and in the United States.
With a 251–132 career record, nine national tournament appearances, 26 professional players coached, and a 91% graduation rate, Hammett has built his career around developing people, establishing championship culture, and transforming programs. Every lesson in The Small College Blueprint was earned — first as a player, then on the sideline.
Three Men's USCAA Division 2 National Championships: 2018–19, 2022–23, 2023–24.
Across a coaching career defined by program building, player development and championship culture, Hammett learned that winning at the small-college level requires much more than X's and O's. It requires recruiting the right people, establishing standards, developing players, trusting your staff, demanding accountability, navigating adversity — and getting an entire program to believe in something before the rest of the world can see it.
The Small College Blueprint takes readers inside that process — through championship runs, rebuilding seasons, recruiting battles, practices, difficult conversations, mistakes, relationships and lessons passed down from his father, Pops.
This isn't a book about telling coaches what a program builder looks like. It's about showing them how one was built.
Championship programs aren't found. They're built.
Coach. Mentor. Builder. Forever a believer.
